With proper care, your lash extension will last as long as your own lash. The life cycle of natural lashes is about 8 to 12 weeks. In order for us to successfully bond a lash to your own lash however; we must target a lash that is long enough to support the length of the extension. Typically these lashes are about 5 to 6 weeks old and are close to full maturity. This leaves you with about 5 to 6 weeks of wear before the last lash falls off. Since your own lashes fall off at different intervals, your extensions will slowly be shed off with the natural lash over the 5 to 6 week period. Because of this, touch ups are recommended about every 2 weeks to maintain the fullness of lush lashes.
Can I use Mascara on my extensions?
You will not need to use mascara with these extensions. But for those die- hard fans the answer is “It is not recommended”. Most mascaras are petroleum based, will break down the bonding agent of the extensions, and dramatically shorten their lives. If desired, you can wear a non-waterproof mascara on the lower lashes, but remember to use an eye makeup remover that contains no oil. You can still use eyeliner and eye shadows as usual.
Are the lashes comfortable on my eyes?
After a few days, you’ll most likely forget you even have lash extensions. That is, until you get that next compliment or look in the mirror! You may find it better to sleep on your back instead of your side, so your lashes don’t bend back. This is what dermatologists tell us is the best sleeping position to avoid wrinkles, so start training yourself to sleep on your back to preserve your youth!
How long does it take to apply the lashes?
Depending on the desired look, the entire lash application process can take anywhere from 90 minutes to 2 hours for a full set.
Can I swim, shower, exercise, or visit a spa while wearing Eyelash Extensions?
Yes. The bonding agent we use is waterproof and allows you to shower, swim, exercise etc. Special care is required but overall maintenance is low. We do recommend however that you use heavy water, such as in the shower on your lashes for about 12- 24 hours after the eyelash application. A light Mist is fine.
How soon before and event should I have them done?
We suggest 2 days to 5 days before that special event or vacation. This insures accurate curing time for the bonding agent (which can take up to 48 hours) and the freshest possible look for the lashes.
Eyelash Cleaning Tips
Keep your lashes clean
Don’t pick at lashes!
This is lash extension 101: no pulling or tugging. When a lash is pulled out, the hair follicle (structure that grows the lash) can become damaged, affecting future growth. Lashes are the most delicate hair on your body, so they need to be dealt with gently—try to only touch them when brushing and cleaning.
Have a cleansing routine
We recommend washing your eyelashes every other day. Although you may think that avoiding contact is best, proper cleaning will make them last longer and prevent eye issues. With every fill set I give you a cleaning kit!
Keeping follicles healthy so they do not weaken or degrade
Avoiding blepharitis—an inflamed, tender, flaky lash line
Controlling demodex mites which thrive in unclean lash lines and cause a reaction similar to that of an allergy
Reducing buildup of oils, makeup and dirt that inhibits the adhesive
Set your lashes back into place after cleansing by blowing them dry on cool/low for 30-60 seconds. This process removes water without contact and will actually protect your lash’s long-term health.
